Eileen (Skjervem) Jorde

Eileen Jorde, 88, Billings, Montana (formerly of Drayton, North Dakota), went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Ministries Garden Court in Billings. Eileen was born on the Skjervem homestead near Brocket, ND on September 28, 1922, the daughter of Lester and Amanda Skjervem. Eileen graduated from Aaker’s Business College, Grand Forks, ND, and moved to Drayton in 1947. In 1948 she married Alton Jorde and lived in Drayton until 2005 when she moved to 4000 Valley Square assisted living in Grand Forks, ND. In December of 2007, she moved to Billings, Montana, to be near her daughter, Laurie Gunville (and her husband Fred).

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Alton, in 1999; twin sister, Ellen Schultz and her husband, Buck; and brother, Leland.

She is survived by her children Lynn (Debbie) Jorde of Salt Lake City, UT; Laurie (Fred) Gunville of Billings, MT; Lee (Susan) Jorde of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren Cameron and Amanda Gunville, Cole (Kristen) Jorde and Connor(Heather) Jorde, Heather and Logan Madsen; and one great grandchild, Ashton David Jorde.

While living in Drayton, Eileen was proud to work at the American Crystal Sugar Company for 15 years. She was an active member of the Drayton Lutheran Church, serving in many ways including Sunday school superintendant for years. She was known throughout the community for her delicious baked goods and delighted in sharing them with others. She always had the coffee pot on and “lunch” ready for anyone stopping by for a visit. Her lifelong hobby was weaving afghans; she blessed more than 50 loved ones with her creations over the years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, always putting others before herself.

We would like to thank Dr Severa and Dr Coon of the Billings Clinic for their compassionate care and the staff of Moorberg Cottage and Garden Court at St John’s Lutheran Ministries for caring for Mom with such love and tenderness. You all are “angels on earth”.

Services: 10:30 AM Saturday, May 28 at Drayton Lutheran Church, Drayton, ND
