Caroline Holloway


Caroline Holloway 97, one of God's beautiful people, made her journey into heaven in the early hours of Monday May 9, 2011. Her soul is at peace, her body made whole again in a place where she can see the faces of her family and hear their lovely voices.

Caroline was born April 29th, 1914 in Bloomington, Illinois the 7th of 8 children, to Charlie and Ellen Dahlquist. Soon after her birth the family came to Montana as homesteaders in Hogeland, known as the Big Flat. She attended school at both Twete and Harlem.

A handsome young man came to visit his sister who was living with the Dahlquist family. Caroline and Melvin Holloway were married July 14, 1934 in Colorado Springs, CO. To this union, two children were born, a daughter Carole and a son, Marv. They came back to Montana and continued to live in the Hogeland area, where Caroline was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She planted abundant vegetable gardens and even more lovely flower gardens. Well into her 90's, she loved to share her special flowers with friends and neighbors. Over the years she developed many hobbies and interests. Caroline was a needlecrafter an accomplished seamstress, created beautiful wedding cakes for young couples, and Oh My Goodness, she could sell you anything. Avon, Shakely Products, and she was especially proud of her of her many awards for a job well done, in the Sears Catalog Department. She was an avid card player, with her family, at the Senior Citizens Center and with special friends from her church.

Caroline was devoted to her faith and lived her life in accordance with those beliefs. She was accepting and always found the good in everyone.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melvin; a granddaughter Sheila all her brothers and sisters; and many of her friends.

She is survived by her daughter Carole; son Marv and Kara Holloway; granddaughter Denise Holloway; grandson Lew Anderson; and her many special nieces and nephews, who all affectionately called her Auntie Carol. Her kindness and loving nature will remain steadfast in all of us.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the many wonderful caregivers at Eagle Cliff Manor, who showered her with loving, caring hands and kisses on the cheek. We are forever grateful to all of you.

A memorial service will be held for Caroline at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Friday May 13, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Carl Guhn will officiate. After the ceremony, lunch will be served at the church, with a private inurnment to follow at Sunset Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, the Stillwater Special Care Unit at Eagle Cliff Manor, or to a charity of one’s choice.
