Mary Christine Kimmons Martin

A Loving Tribute

We all say thank-you for showing us that each and every one of us are a miracle of God, each destined to leave our own footprints in this journey called life.

We say thank-you
in your times of good health, you loved us unconditionally!

We thank you for all the sacrifices, heartache, tears and poor health you so endured for so many years.

Since you are no longer here, we will close our eyes and say thank-you in our prayers and know you are now having that picnic in heaven!

Mary Christine Kimmons Martin was born November 1, 1928 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Robert and Harriet Kimmons, an agricultural engineer and art teacher.

She graduated from high school in Greeley, Colorado and attended nursing school in Butte, Montana. She then attended the remainder of her nurses training at Carroll College, Helena, Montana. She graduated in 1949 as a member of the first co-ed nursing class.

Her first job was at the Billings Clinic, Billings, Montana and at the time there were only 11 employed physicians.

Mary joined the Navy Nurses Corps in 1951 and was immediately assigned to the ENT department.

Mary was the first daughter initiate of Chapter AN of the PEO Sisterhood, Billings, Montana in March of 1951. Her mother, Harriet was also a sister member of Chapter AN. Mary remained active in PEO until her health no longer permitted her to.

On July 11, 1952 she was joined in matrimony to Wallace “Bill” Martin, who preceded her meeting with our Lord in 1994.

Mary Christine Kimmons Martin’s life is celebrated by her brother, Robert L. Kimmons, his wife Florence and their family living in Houston, Texas; her children Tamara Degen and husband, Richard of Vancouver, Washington, Douglas Martin and wife, Karen Belluomini Martin of St. Ignatius, Montana, Leslie Stevie and husband Tom of Sheridan, Wyoming. There are five grandchildren who loved their grandmother; Kristin Martin Trahan, Benjamin Martin, Brittany and Jonathan Degen, and Piper Stevie. A new great grandchild, Olivia Marie Trahan was just recently born.

A memorial service with family will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or remembrances, the family would appreciate contributions to St. John’s Nursing Home, 3940 Rimrock Rd., Billings, Montana 59102.
