Johnny L. Nystrom
Johnny L. Nystrom was born in Havre, to Evelyn and John Nystrom. He lived on the family ranch with his four brothers and parents, and had very fond memories of it. He enlisted in the army in October of 1956 and served for two years as a medic and had an honorable discharge.
Johnny enjoyed his children. He lived a solitary life after his marriages and enjoyed his “Thistle Acres” and his “Happy Half a Horse Shed,” as he always referred to his home.
He loved talking on the phone to his brothers and his children. He would always write diaries for letters and then rip them up and start over.
He worked as a DJ for numerous years, and was known as Johnny Nice Guy. He ended his working career at Wymont Beverages.
He is survived by his children, Vicki Nystrom of Silverdale, Wash., Terri Elgin (Bill), son Josh of Olathe, Kan., John Nystrom of Billings, Rex Nystrom of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Tammy Rasmussen (Mike), sons Shawn and Corey of Billings, Tracy Haman (Grant), son Conner and daughter Regan of Billings; three brothers, Paul Nystrom (Jo) of Montrose, Colo., Ed Nystrom of Havre and Conrad Nystrom of Havre.
He was preceded in death by brother David Nystrom.
No local services are planned. His ashes will be spread at Pine Mountain in Havre, on the family ranch.
Remembrances
Dad, I will always remember as a child being in the garden with you and picking off those nasty potato bugs. I will remember the good times at the ranch. Thank you for all those years and memories. Your daughter, Vicki
Our condolences go out to the Nystrom family at this
time of sorrow for John.
Vicki and Terri it has been so long since we have seen you both.
Remember when you use to come to our house to visit.
We were not sure where you were both living, as it has been so long.
We would love to hear from you and what has been happening in your lives.
Again our sympathy to you and your family,
Emma & Micky Golie
Johnny was one of the first people that I got to
know in radio. He was working in Miles City at KATL and I was at KHDN in
Hardin. We swapped jobs...he wanted to do some engineering and I wanted
to do announcing. I was new to the industry and he gave me some of my
first pointers. Nice fellow. After traveling the cities of the country
in radio, I returned home to Montana to work at KOYN. I ran into Johnny
several times and he was still the same nice guy. Those early tips to a
green kid were really appreciated and served me well. Though I haven't
seen him in many years now, I remember his kindness and share your loss.
