Stuart "Stu" McKennan
Stuart “Stu” McKennan left this life on August 10, 2011 due to natural causes at the age of 81. He lived a long full life on his own terms and passed peacefully after a short illness. He was born on April 13, 1930 in Upton, WY to Rollo and Carrie (Monnich) McKennan, who preceded him in death. He was the last survivor of his 5 brothers - Don (Pat), Bob, Wilbur, Paul and Jack. He was married to Dolores Kobold on Feb 10, 1951 and had six children; Mary, Barry, Lori, Judy, Robert and Jennifer, and preceded in death by one son, John. Stu had 14 grandchildren - Sarah, Dustin, Ian, Angela, Shawn, Christopher, Benjamin, Christina, Toni, Brian, Matthew, Jerry, Diana and Robert. In addition, he had 7 great-grandchildren - Shaun, Breana, Jackson, Ryan, Sophia, Ashley and Alayna. Many nieces and nephews also survive him
He served in the US Navy until his discharge in 1947. Stu was trained in photogrammetric engineering after an accident in a sawmill left him in need of a career change. He worked for 30 years in photogrammetry before retiring in April 1995. Upon retirement, Stu moved back to Billings, MT to be in “Gods country”. In the late 1980's Stu was a fixture in the music scene in Billings, his love of bluegrass music was shared by his fans and brightened the day of anyone who heard him play. Despite loosing a finger in an accident, Stu managed to master the banjo. Being the consummate musician and entertainer, he loved to bring a smile to the face of all who would listen. A creative individual, Stu also enjoyed wood working, upholstery, and liked to fish in Montana's rivers and streams. He will be missed by family and friends alike.
In honor of Stu's wishes, there will be no formal services. He will be cremated and join his band-mates at their favorite fishing hole.
Remembrances
I will miss you uncle Tim. Though it has been some
time since I have seen you, you will always have a special place in my
heart. You were my wonderful Godfather and fellow musician.
To my cousins, I give my sincere condolescences and pray that your sorrow
fades with time. Losing a parent is extremely difficult. From personal
experience, let me just suggest that you remember the happy times, more
often than not.
All my love
Debbie
Dear McKennan Cousins:
We loved your Dad so much. I have very fond memories of him and his banjo
and the many times he joined us for dinner etc. I am sorry I didn't stay in
better contact with him in his later years.
Nonetheless, he was truly loved and so are you! Our thoughts and prayers are
with you during this most difficult time. May God bring you the comfort you
so richly deserve. Please keep in touch, we want to be here for you!!
Love & Blessings Always!!
