Bertha Zumbrun
Bertha Zumbrun, 86 of Billings, died on April 4, 2011 after a brief illness. Bertha (Bertie) Janet Duxbury was born October 22, 1924 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Montana. She was the daughter of Boyd and Edna (Carroll) Duxbury. For the first seven years of Bertha's life, her family lived in Hysham, Forsyth and Billings before making a permanent move to Joliet, Montana in 1931. Bertha attended Joliet Elementary School and graduated from Joliet High School in 1942. After graduation, she moved to Billings and attended Billings Business College. After completing her studies at BBC, she began working as a billing clerk for the Northern Pacific Railroad and continued until her retirement in 1987.
On April 25, 1945, she and Earl Zumbrun were united in marriage at St. Patrick's Church in Billings, MT. They lived briefly in Alexandria, Louisiana while Earl completed his military service. They returned to Billings at the end of WWII and soon moved into their first home on Broadwater Avenue. They lived in Billings from 1945 to 1948, in Joliet, Montana from 1948 to 1955, and in Livingston, Montana from 1955 to 1957. In July of 1957, they returned to Billings.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Mary Eik and Carroll Pitts. She is survived by her husband Earl; her three daughters: Earlene (Bob) Meyer of Billings, Shirley (Ron) Smith of Woodinville, WA, and Theresa (Vernon) Gisi of Monument, CO; ten grandchildren: Brenda Meyer and Mike Littleton, Josh (Lori) Meyer of Billings, Tyrene Meyer (Brady)Wetzel of Lincoln, NE, Ryan (Cristin) Smith, of Mountain View, CA, Julie Smith (Chris) Lubke, of Seattle, WA, Eric (Nancy) Smith, of Corvallis, OR, Ian (Kelly) Smith of Mill Creek, WA, Dawn Gisi (Paul) Phillips of Cheyenne, WY, Amber Gisi Comer of Aurora, CO, and Earl (Brooke) Gisi of Castle Rock, CO; Twelve great grandchildren: Anthony and Alyssa Meyer; Quinn Wetzel; Emily, Laura, Evan, Isaac and Elizabeth Phillips; Robert and Anthony Comer; Asher and Aubry Gisi.
Vigil services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday April 7, 2011 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, April 8, at Saint Pius X Church with Rite of Committal at Joliet Cemetery.
