Gene Theimer
Gene Theimer, 83 of Billings, the husband, father, grandfather and friend we all love, passed away on April 28, 2011.
Gene was born on April 22, 1928 in Ashland, Kentucky to Erle K. Theimer and Mary Temple Theimer. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1931 and Gene attended Grade School, High School and Junior College in the Chicago education program. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma in 1953. He did advanced studies at the University of Colorado where he met and married Myrle Jean Cook of Boulder, Colorado.
From 1946 to 1948 he proudly served in the U.S. Navy, primarily in the Aleutian Islands.
Gene began a career in the banking industry in Denver in 1952. In 1964 he joined the Midland National Bank in Billings, Montana (now U.S. Bank) serving from 1965 to 1984. He belonged to several professional associations, civic organizations and charitable entities. Gene was a member of The Billings Lions Club and was the District Governor for District 37A from 1986 to 1987.
His family was the center of his life and he was delighted that all were able to spend many holidays and vacations together, especially in Yellowstone Park. He imparted a love of the outdoors as well as an appreciation of good music to his children. Bird hunting, golf and fishing were his main recreational activities. His coffee club at the Lucky Lady and his enjoyment of singing in the church choir show the spectrum of his interests and involvement in the community.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years; children Gayle and Scott of Billings, Montana; Marie (and Michael) of Longmont, Colorado and Myra (and Mike) of Grand Marias, Minnesota; grandchildren Arlin and Elias in Colorado and Aurora in Minnesota; and his brother Erle (and Sue) of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at 11A.M., Saturday, April 30, 2011 at First Congregational Church, in Billings. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Lions Club Foundation.
