Walter Nuxoll
Walter Nuxoll, 95 of Worden, passed away at his home on
September 24, at his home surrounded by his family. Walter was
born on Aug. 10, 1915, in Cottonwood, ID, in the same room as
his father was born in a house built by his grandfather, H. H.
Nuxoll. Cottonwood, ID, was founded by H. H. Nuxoll.
Walt's father moved to homestead a ranch near Volborg, MT. In
April of 1916, Walt and his mother traveled there through snow
that reached the bellies of the horses in places. Walt attended
the Glenn and North Stacey schools.
His family left the homestead in 1939, due to years of drought
and waves of grasshoppers and Mormon crickets. In 1940, they
returned to the area, buying the Tyler ranch, which adjoined
their old homestead. He helped to build the land into a very
nice ranch. His parents left the ranch in 1957 to move to
Billings, MT. Years of hard work in all kinds of severe weather
forced Walt to retire from ranching in 1967.
Walt fell in love and married Jane Carlstrom, a teacher from
Worden, MT, in 1956. After retiring, Walt and Jane moved to a
small farm near Worden, MT.
Walt spent many years ranching, both for his family and on other
ranches. Walt was always ready to help a friend or neighbor. He
was also active in fighting fires in both Powder River and
Custer counties.
They spent many of their retirement years traveling with a small
trailer throughout the northern and western parts of the United
States. Walt also spent much of his retirement enjoying hunting
and fishing. He also was an avid square dancer and was a charter
member of the Big Sky Polka Club in Billings.
Gradually failing eyesight and failing health finally caught up
with Walt, and he passed away in his wife's arms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ann. He is
survived by his loving wife, Jane, and dear sister, Irene
Messmer; and his nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at
2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 2, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to the Worden Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 369, Worden, MT 59088 or Riverstone Hospice, P.O. Box, 1562, Billings, MT 59103.

Jane,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. I would like to make it down for the

Will keep you in our prayers. May God bless you and Walter.
