Yetta Letwak Niss was born March 11, 1909, in Milwaukee, Wis., to
Sam and Esther Letwak. She was raised in Billings, where she
attended Billings Senior High School and graduated with honors in
1928. She went on to business school in Milwaukee. After college,
she worked as a telephone operator for AT&T. She married Morris Niss
in Waukegan, Ill., on July 26, 1933. They eventually moved to
Billings, where they enjoyed 40 years of marriage until his death in
1973.
Yetta enjoyed crocheting and knitting afghans that wrapped her
family members in her love. Until the end, she was interested in
world news and kept up with current events. She loved good music —
especially opera. Her family enjoyed all of her delicious baked
goods. Her rose gardens at her home in Billings were absolutely
beautiful.
Yetta moved to Cambridge Place in Great Falls in June of 2004, where
she made many wonderful friends and participated in numerous
activities. Among her favorites were trivia, bingo, group crosswords
and Texas Hold ’em poker.
She is survived by her son, Les (Harriet) Niss of San Diego;
daughter Shirley (Mike) Young of Great Falls; grandchildren David
(Annette) Niss, Jeff (Mary) Young, Cathy (James) Sigismonti, Kevin (Stacia)
Young, Barbara Niss and Tyler Young; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; and brothers
Ralph, Leo and Jake Letwak.
