Elaine Moffet

Elaine MoffetElaine Moffet was taken to her eternal home and embraced by her Savior on September 18, 2010. She had resided at Highgate Senior Living for 1 ½ years in the Alzheimer Cottage. She was born on March 9, 1915 to Fred and Marie Maier in LaMoure, North Dakota. Following her marriage to Leo Lutgen, they continued living on the Maier Family homestead where they raised 3 children.

Elaine attended business college to hone her office skills and moved to Billings in 1960. She remarried to O.R. Moffet and she became an office manager for John Hancock Insurance. She later worked for Western State Bank until her retirement.

She was always a firm believer in education. Elaine encouraged her children and grandchildren to go to college and follow their dreams. She served as an example to this end. Elaine was diverse and versatile throughout her life. She especially enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. She loved history, and was always following stories from the past, whether on the road, in books, or in films. Until she was well into her nineties, Elaine walked five miles before breakfast each day. She regularly attended the Billings Symphony and performances at the Alberta Bair and Billings Studio Theatre. Her faith was central in her life and she was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. It would be difficult to remember a time when she did not find a church and attend weekly services, no matter where she was.

Elaine was preceded in death by a son James, her parents, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by her son Jack Lutgen (Judy); her daughter Yvonne Harris (Joel); as well as five grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Her sister-in-law Mary Maier of LaMoure, North Dakota also survives.

The family wishes to thank the loving and capable staff at Highgate. Their care and empathy for Elaine and her family was without boundaries.

The casket will be open for visitation on Tuesday, noon to 5 p.m. and Wednesday until the conclusion of the prayer service. A prayer service and time of sharing memories will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 22, at Michelotti - Sawyers Mortuary. Funeral services with closed casket will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Mountview Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church or Rocky Mountain Hospice.
