Colonel James T.O. Braafladt
Colonel James T. O. Braafladt, 93
of Billings, formerly of San Antonio, TX passed away on
September 20, 2010, at St. Vincent Healthcare, with his daughter
Annie by his side. James was born on February 12, 1917 in
Peking, China to missionary parents, Louis and Ann (Olson)
Braafladt. The family traveled extensively as he was growing up.
James joined the Army in March 1942, serving in World War II. He
retired at rank of Colonel in 1977. After World War II, James
was a member of the Foreign Service throughout Europe and the
Middle East. His multilingual ability of 7 different languages
helped with his career assignments.
James retired in Texas, later moving to Billings to be
closer to family in June 2008.
He is survived by two daughters, Pat (John) Meddick of
Cleveland, OH and Annie (Peter) Teal of Billings; 5
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his daughter Michelle in 1959.
The casket will be closed. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, September 25, at Mountview Cemetery Veterans Section. A reception will follow at Hilands Golf Club at approximately 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
