Arline B. Jerome

Arline Jerome passed away Sunday morning, October 3, 2010 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Arline was born in Havre, Montana on February 4, 1924, the third child of homesteaders William and Estella Ergenbright. The “home place” was north of Gildford along the Milk River near the Canadian border.

She graduated from Havre High School in 1942 and moved to Missoula where she met and married Robert Jerome April 14, 1944. They resided in Whittier, California during World War II, where their only child was born. They returned to Missoula in the spring of 1945. In 1952 the family settled in Billings.

Arline learned to hunt so she could spend more time with her husband, doing what he liked. She learned to fly fish for the same reason, and the family spent many summer nights camped along the Stillwater River. Eventually they built a cabin at Hebgan Lake, and the friends they met there introduced them to golf.

Arline was an expert seamstress, making clothes for the family, working with 4–H Club members, and later making sets of uniforms and maintaining them for the Billings West High Majorettes.

In addition to her work with the majorettes, she drove Meals On Wheels for several years and was an RSVP volunteer at MSU–Billings, selling programs at the basketball games.

Arline was preceded in death by her parents and siblings and her husband of 42 years.

She is survived by her daughter Janyce Taylor (and husband Bill), her grandson Matthew Taylor (and wife Jennifer) and great–granddaughters Kaitlyn, Ava and Ivy.

She is also survived by several loving friends with whom she played bridge and attended ball games. Their help and that of Hospice eased her passing greatly.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association–Montana Chapter, 3010 11th Ave. No, Billings, MT 59101.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10am Monday, October 11, 2010 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary.
