Marilyn Ann Brown
On Thursday, October 28, 2010
Marilyn Ann Brown of Billings passed away at her home surrounded
by her family. Marilyn was born on May 29, 1930 in Beach, ND, to
John and Edna Alguire. She was valedictorian of her 1941
graduating class in Beach. The next year Marilyn moved to
Billings with her family where she met Rockwood Brown. She
attended Concordia College, Eastern Montana College, and
University of Montana. Marilyn studied drama at the University
of Montana. Marilyn and Rockwood were married in 1951.
Marilyn was well known for her love of people and animals. She
was a ‘hugger’, often hugging complete strangers. She gave love
unconditionally, bestowing a lasting impact on everyone she
encountered. Humor was also an important part of her life and a
gift to her family and friends. She loved making others laugh.
Halloween was her favorite holiday. She delighted in playing the
part of a witch, and appeared on television as the witch for Boo
at the Zoo. Friends and family enjoyed calling to hear her
clever messages on her answering machine, particularly when she
used a Norwegian accent.
Marilyn loved books, collecting sweatshirts, plants and
rocks. She was a frequent presence at Rocky Mountain College
Campus walking her golden retriever. Marilyn also had a
great sense of adventure. Even though she didn’t swim, she
joined her family on countless canoe trips on Montana
rivers. Whether it was raining or snowing, she always had a
smile on her face.
Rockwood, her husband of nearly 60 years, and her five
children survive Marilyn: her son Scott (Deb) Brown of
Billings and granddaughters Lauren and Cody Brown and great
granddaughter Cecilia; her daughters Holly Brown of
Billings,
Julie Brown of Solana Beach, CA, Nancy (Gary) Brown-Martin
of Solana Beach, CA, and Rebecca (Brian) Frank of Joliet,
and grandsons Rockwood and Keith Frank.
Marilyn’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday November 2, at
St Luke’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. St Luke’s Episcopal
Church is located at 119 N 33rd Street, Billings, MT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Marilyn
Brown Scholarship Endowment Fund at Rocky Mountain College,
1511 Poly Drive, Billings, MT 59102.
Thank-you for all the love you gave us. We will miss you dearly.
Remembrances
Please leave your name and remembrance in this public guest book. Your comments will be shared on this page and forwarded to the family.
Dear Brown family,
Marilyn was such a gift in my life, her kind words and fun-loving
attitude
will always be remembered warmly. Marilyn was full of love for children
and
animals. I was lucky to be one of the kids in her life. Seeing her and
Rocky last Christmas brought back great memories of happy times spent
with
your family.
Nancy, I will be at the service on Tuesday and hope to spend a few
minutes
with you before leaving on Wednesday.
Love to all of you,
Deni (Edwards) Mensing
