Musa Arlette Blackford
Musa Arlette Blackford died
peacefully in the arms of her family Monday evening, October 11,
2010.
Musa was born January 26, 1923 to Peter and Ruby Pryor in
Hardin, MT. She attended Fratt Elementary school and graduated
from Billings Senior High.
Musa Pryor and George Blackford were married July 4, 1941 in
Livingston, MT. George enlisted in the Navy soon after Pearl
Harbor and mom followed him to Rhode Island for basic
training. She returned to Billings after he was shipped to
the Aleutian Islands. From the Aleutians Dad was transported
by hospital ship to Seattle and mom moved there to be with
him as he recuperated. They spent the rest of the war years
at Camp Parks California. After the war, George & Musa their
daughter Kathy moved back to Laurel and then Billings.
Musa worked many year in the Boys department, youth center
at Hart Albins. She enjoyed golf, traveling, pitch games and
especially lunch and bridge with her friends. It broke her
heart when failing health kept her from bridge and lunch.
She was a charter member of St. Pius X Church.
Musa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69
years, George, her sister Mary Jean Duncan and her brother
Jesse Patterson.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy (Joe) Carlson, son
Allen (Jill) Blackford, grandsons, Mike, Steve (Jen) and
their sons Mathew & Joey, & Todd Carlson and his daughters
Wednesday & Teal and Mark & Jason Blackford.
Musa was blessed to have exceptional care through her tough
times. Connie Rasmussen helped mom at home for over 10
years. Synergy Home Care, Myrna, Kristen and others provided
24 hours care for over 5 months. Riverstone health nursing
care, Dr. Brad Fuller, Ann and Dr. Copeland were
compassionate and caring. The staff at St Johns provided her
care, tenderness and dignity for her last 3 weeks. The
family heartily thanks them all.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. at
St Pius X church with Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St Pius X church, Ronald McDonald
house or the charity of one’s choice.
