Philip Alfred McNeil, "Phil", age 70, of Billings passed away peacefully on November 10, 2010 at the Billings Clinic, surrounded by his loving family.

Phil was born in Caro, Michigan November 23, 1939, to Max and Mary McNeil, the eldest of five children. Phil graduated from Caro High School in 1958 and entered the United States Navy immediately following high school. Phil was married to Jan (Gehrcke) of Traverse City, MI on April 29, 1978, and together they have three children.

Phil choose to excel in his career as a journeyman pipefitter, he was a member of Local 85 Plumbers and Pipefitters of Saginaw, MI for 30 years, and continued in his post-retirement career as an independent chief pipeline inspector for MichCon. Phil's extensive travels with his job took him to many different and interesting places throughout the United States, one of his favorites of which was Montana. In 2000 when Phil retired from Local 85, the family relocated to Billings, MT.

Phil's hobbies included golf, reading, woodworking, puzzles, hunting and enjoying time with his children and grandchildren. Phil was a mason and belonged to Masonic Lodge Ashlar #29. He spent most of his post-retirement mornings golfing his 18 holes at the Par 3 golf course, and having coffee and "shooting the bull" with his many friends.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jan; his children Elizabeth and Mary Sue of Florida, Jason (Sara) McNeil of Fort Benning, GA, Kristen (Matthew) DeGroat of Akron, MI, and Shalyn McNeil and fiancé, Clint Harrison of Fromberg, MT. Grandchildren include Alex, Natalie, Max, Brady and Owen. Phil is survived by his father Max McNeil of Caro, MI and younger siblings Marj McNeil of Fairgrove, MI and Dory (Duane) Beach of Caro, MI.

He is pre-deceased by mother, Mary McNeil and siblings Robert McNeil, James McNeil and infant brother.

Services will be held Saturday, November 13th, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary and Crematory, Chaplain Scott Davies will be officiating.

A special thank you to all of the medical staff at Billings Clinic ICU and ATU, your grace and kindness in Phil's time of need will never be forgotten.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to American Heart Association or the charity of one's choosing.

Jan and Shady, so sorry for your loss. I called the shop lastweek and heard things had taken a turn for the worse. My heart goes out to you both. My thoughts are with you.
