William L. Hogan
Bill Hogan was born on the Hogan home ranch on south 24th
street, March
22, 1928. He was the older son of William M., and Rosa E.
Hogan. His grandfather, Martin Hogan, had settled on the
property after coming from Norway in 1881. Bill went home to
his Lord Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the age of 82.
Bill attended Billings schools, graduating from Senior High
in 1946. He earned his degree in business administration
from the University of Montana in 1950. The military called
him in the fall of 1950. He entered the 40th division, 223rd
regt. 3rd bat., spending time in California, Japan and in
combat in Korea. He served as battalion intelligence NCO,
with the rank of Master Sgt., and was awarded the bronze
medal for meritorious service and the South Korean service
medal.
Upon returning to the states, he was employed by Glacier
State Electric Supply Co. He remained with Glacier for some
forty years, becoming owner/manager. Following the closure
of Glacier, Bill worked for O. J. Electric and Montana Fish,
Wildlife and Parks.
Soon following his return from Korea, Bill purchased with
his lifetime friend, Bill Williams, the Hanging Seven Ranch
on Duck Creek. He raised horses and registered Hereford
cattle. For years he spent each summer vacation with
friends, horse packing into the Beartooth Mountains, the Bob
Marshall Wilderness and the mountains of Wyoming. In the
nineteen eighties he moved into the valley and started
raising racing quarter horses as a hobby. Bill loved
delivering the foals and cheering for them on the various
tracks in Montana and Wyoming.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Martin
Lloyd Hogan, sister Stella Todd, brother-in-law Joe Borris,
and sister-in-law Barbara Hogan. He is survived by his
sister Mary Borris. Although Bill did not have children of
his own, he was a second father to his nine nieces and
nephews, Carol Suek, Bob Jolley, Laura Burns, Suzie Restad,
Audrey Ruggles, Tom Hogan, Dennis Hogan, Kathy Kuppinger,
and Tracey Borris. Bill was also blessed with nineteen great
nieces and nephews, and numerous great-great nieces and
nephew. He is also survived by a very good friend Don
Christensen.
