Earline Joy (Cooley) Davis

Earlene Joy (Cooley) Davis, 78 of Billings passed on at her home November 17, 2010, surrounded by her loved ones. Earlene was born in Roundup, MT on May 22, 1932, the daughter of Earl and Vallie (Ness) Cooley. She was raised on the family ranch outside of Musselshell, MT, graduating from Musselshell School in 1950, being the only one in the class. Earlene went on to Eastern Montana College in Billings receiving her degree there in 1952.

On June 9, 1957, Earlene married Donald Davis in Billings, making their home here. She worked in the oil and gas industry for Sun Oil and later Exxon Oil, where she was an administrative assistant and helped with oil leases. She chose to leave her career to be with family raising her two sons Scott and Skyler.

Earlene’s interests were quite varied, family being most important. She treasured learning of the family heritage and her home was filled with items reminding her of it, especially miniature pieces. Earlene was a talented calligrapher and member of the Yellowstone Calligraphers’ Guild and Rocky Mountain Calligraphy Guild and dabbled with watercolor and other art forms. She was active in the Yellowstone Art Museum as a volunteer. She especially enjoyed her bible study groups and belonged to several over the years including Bible Study Fellowship and the Mayflower Circle. She enjoyed growing beautiful gardens and loved sharing her herbs with family and friends, who looked forward to receiving her special gifts during the holidays such as homemade mustards, cookies, and candies wrapped and bowed with her special artistic touch! Being an active bird watcher she most loved ducks and geese, ones that reminded her of her childhood home in Musselshell. She traveled over the years throughout Montana, the U.S., and Europe and would relax in the evenings dreaming of beautiful places in her travel magazines.

Earlene was at peace with her family surrounding her with love. Her faith ran deep in everything she did. She was a prayer warrior and her faith in Jesus Christ kept her strong through the very end.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother John Cooley; nephew Darryl Seeley, she is survived by her husband of 53 years Don Davis; sons Scott (Razel); and Skyler all of Billings; sister Carol Rowe of Dallas, TX; sister-in-law Mary Cooley of Musselshell; sister-in-law Ailene Shaffer of Billings; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in Billings at 1:00 P.M., Monday, November 22, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial to follow at Mountview Cemetery. The casket will be open for visitation on Saturday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday noon - 5 p.m. at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Avenue in Billings, MT.

Memorials may be made to the Friends of Musselshell School or the charity of one’s choice.
