Betty J. Bower
The
gates of Heaven welcomed Betty Jean Bower, 88, of Billings
on November 4, 2010. Betty was born to Dan and Lottie Finch
on February 22, 1922 in Sumatra, Montana. She married Howard
Bower on August 14, 1941. They had two children Jerry and
Peggy.
Betty was an avid gardener, dancer, and card player. She
loved making different needle point crafts and baking her
famous cherry pies. She is remembered for her green thumb,
her love of cats and her fierce independence. She was a
professional seamstress who made anything from her daughters
wedding dress and cloths for herself (and the family) up
until a few days before she died. Betty was also known as a
“Jack of all trades” and could be seen painting, building,
and tearing things apart. Her greatest joy was watching her
grand children grow up and her great grand children play.
She was able to visit her family homestead in Sumatra with
her daughter and nephew this past June. This was a place of
great joy for her that she was able to visit one last time.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Dan and Lottie
Finch; her sister Gilda James; bothers Kay, Dick, and
Kenneth; son Jerry; husband Howard; great grandson Maxwell
Tombre; and close companion and long time friend Lloyd
Augustine.
Betty is survived by her daughter Peggy; grandchildren Erick
Tombre and Todd Dubois, Ron and Sandy Tombre, Jay and
Michelle Tombre, Janet and Fred Tombre-Cini, and Scott
Bower; great grandchildren Michael Tombre, Katie Tombre, Ben
Tombre, Gavin Tombre, Christian Cini, and Erin Bower.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday,
November 8, 2010 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Cremation
will follow services.
