Dorothy M. Strobbe

Dorothy Strobbe

Dorothy M. (Metzker) Strobbe, 81 of Billings, passed away on March 10, 2010 at Valley Healthcare, following a short illness.  Dorothy was born of August 5, 1928 in Hardin, MT, the daughter of George and Katherine Metzker.  The family moved to Shepherd when Dorothy was eight years old.  She attended Pioneer Progressive School and graduated from Shepherd High School.

Dorothy had been married to Rudy Strobbe and two children were born to this union, Rudy Jr. and Donna.  While the children were young, Dorothy stayed home to care for them until they started school.  At that time, she joined to workforce as a seamstress.  She pursued that for 15 years before going to work at St. Vincent Hospital.  Dorothy was an admitting clerk with St. V’s for 20 years before she retied in 1995.

In her free time, Dorothy was a crafter.  She loved to sew, quilt, and paint and enjoyed being creative with her many crafting projects.  She loved visiting with her friends and stayed independent until the last three weeks of her life.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John and Donny; and granddaughter Melinda.  Survivors include her brother Harvey (Susan) Metzker of Billings, sister Betty Ann Shanafelt of Wyoming, and brother Bob Metzker of Billings; children Rudy (Linda Beischel) Strobbe, Jr. of Helena and Donna (Gary) Stricker of Hardin; grandchildren, Gary (Jodi) Stricker Jr. of Arizona, Lisa (Ted) McFarland of Billings and Shane Strobbe of Portland, OR; great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Kamdyn McFarland; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Hazel Bayers and Edith Bonath.

Cremation has taken place.  Services will be held at a later date.

Add Your Remembrance

To Dorothy's Family,

You are not alone in your sadness-warm thoughts and deepest sympathy are with each and everyone of you.  Dorothy will be remembered and missed by her many friends and I count myself among them.

To Dorothy's family --

Along with my mother, Hazel Bayers, I and my two  daughters, Tami and Andrea, will miss seeing Dorothy on our trips to  Billings.  When my daughters were younger and visiting Mom in the summer,  they considered Dorothy an "aunt" and were surprised to learn that her and Mom  were not sisters, just very good friends.  Andrea always remembered that  Dorothy and her shared the same birthdate.  I have many of Dorothy's  wonderful craft projects and all of us use her "scrubbies" a lot.  Dorothy  was a kind and caring person and a very good friend to my  Mother.   I'm sorry for your loss and I hope it will bring  comfort to you to know how highly regarded and appreciated Dorothy was by  all.

I sleep under Dorothy's quilts and celebrate the holidays with her decorations. Her greatest gift, of course, was her company. Thank you for making me part of the family Dorothy, you will be missed.
