Thaddeus Thomas, 90, of Billings, passed away Saturday, June 5,
2010 at the Billings Clinic, from complications of pneumonia.
John was born June 11, 1919 at the family home in Shawmut,
Montana, the son of Eugene Thomas and Anna E Ryan Thomas.
After graduating from Shawmut High School in 1937, he attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1941. He then attended Law School at The Catholic University in Washington D.C. for one year in 1941. At this time World War II erupted and John enlisted in the Navy and participated in the Officers Training Program at the University of Notre Dame where he was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy. He was assigned to a Joint Assault Signal Company and spent three years in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. During assault missions in the Pacific, he landing on six different islands! He was released to inactive duty from the Navy in May, 1946 as a full lieutenant.
John married Margaret O'Toole on June 19, 1948 at St. Mathias Church in Ryegate, Montana.
John was employed by Fuller Paint and Glass in 1947 and by Becker's Glass in 1973, retiring in 1983. John and Margaret traveled extensively throughout the years and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret; sons John (Joanne)of Great Falls, Brian of Billings, a daughter Colleen (Ron) Jones of Salt Lake City; grandchildren Michael (Amy) Thomas of Bozeman, Joel Thomas of Great Falls, Sara Jones and great granddaughters Lori and Courtney Jones of Salt Lake City; and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1965.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 9, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rite of Committal with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Church building fund or St. Vincent DePaul.
