Paul Sian

Paul Sian, age 90, passed away on June 3, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Home where he had lived since 2006. Paul was born in 1920 in Pitthem, Belgium and came to the United States with his family when he was 5 years old to homestead at Pompey’s Pillar. Paul met Norma Juhl at a dance in Custer and it was love at first site. They married in 1947 and made their home on a farm near Pompey’s Pillar where they lived together for more than 50 years.
Paul enjoyed working the land and raising crops and cattle. Over the years Paul served the farming community on the boards of the Farmers Union Co-op, the Soil Conservation Service, and the Huntley Project Irrigation District. Paul enjoyed reading the newspaper cover to cover every day and discussing current events and politics. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and was happiest when they were all together with him on the farm. We will miss his sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye and the smile he gave when seeing his family and friends.
Paul is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Becker and Michael Yurkanin, of Billings, his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lorri Sian of Pompey’s Pillar, his daughter and son-in-law, Tana and Conrad Kradolfer of Bozeman, and six grandchildren: Kylie Becker, Justin, Joshua and Kelsey Sian, and Kristin and Kylie Kradolfer; and his sister, Julia Patterson of Billings. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma, and his brothers Herman and Don.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 7 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 8 at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Ballantine, with Right of Committal in Pleasantview Cemetery, Ballantine.
Words cannot express the gratitude for the loving care Paul received while living in Garden Court at St. John’s and should friends desire, memorials may be made to Garden Court, St. John’s Lutheran Home, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, MT 59102.
