Harold J. Stene


Harold J. Stene, 85 of Billings, passed away, Sunday July 4, 2010 at
St. Vincent Health Care.
The son of Andrew and Ida Stene, Harold was born December 10, 1924
in Thief River Falls, MN. The family moved to Billings in 1929.
Harold graduated from Senior High School and served in the Army
during WWII. He was a salesman for Elliot’s Men’s Store and worked
at the Conoco Refinery for 33 years.
Harold loved everything about baseball. From the time he was a small
boy he loved to play it, coach it, and watch it. He also enjoyed
billiards and snooker.
Survivors include his son James Stene (Pat) of Scotland, two
step-daughters, Beverly Hull (Grove) of Billings and Sheba Seery (
Rick) of Camp Crook, SD, a brother Andrew Stene (Alice) of Billings,
a sister Betty Gutcher of Glendive and many nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1985 and 5 siblings.
Harold you worked hard and enjoyed your life. We will miss you and
your sweet spirit.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 1pm Saturday,
July 10th at Hope Center Foursquare Church, 425 S 28th St. Interment
with military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Baseball, Hope Center Foursquare Church, or the charity of one’s choice.

I played
for Mr. Stene for several years when I was small. Western Giants at
Central Park. It was a great time and he was a great coach. We still
talk about those times in my family 40+ years later. I am saddened to
hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.
