Bob E. Whitmer

Bob Whitmer

Bob E. Whitmer, 78 of Billings, passed away on Thursday morning at Valley Health Care Center in Billings.  Bob was born on August 30, 1931 in Glendive, MT, the son of McKinley and Julia Whitmer.  He attended school in Glendive and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1949.  Bob played intramural basketball and was active in Future Farmers of America, where he was selected to be a representative of the local FFA Chapter at the National Convention in Kansas City, Kansas.

Bob Whitmer was dad’s right hand man all through his growing up years.  He became the father figure and family provider when dad passed away in 1950.  Bob was a farmer in Eastern Montana (near Richey) and with the help of his mother, was able to provide a home, food and clothes for all his younger siblings.  We are very fortunate to have a brother whose mission was to care for his mother and other brothers and sisters after their father’s death.  Like dad, Bob was an outstanding farmer, carpenter, and mechanic.  He was a man of his word as evidenced by his verbal and handshake, on farm rental agreements.  What a role model he was for the rest of his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister Maxine and brother Jerry.  He is survived by his sisters, Lois Ludwig, June (Charles) Sangwin; brothers Duane (Lynn), Warren (Donna) and Tom (Nancy); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

The casket will be open for visitation at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary and Crematory, from 3-5 p.m., on Sunday, January 10.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 11, 2010 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Avenue in Billings.  Burial will follow at Mountview Cemetery.

Bob will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Memorials may be made in Bob’s name to his favorite organization, The VFW.

Add Your Remembrance

Dear Lois, June, Duane, Warren & Tom,

I'm thinking of all of you.

Our Bob E. has moved on after showing up for us in so many ways over the years.  Bob E. became more than a cousin to so many of us - he was like a young uncle.  I have so many  fond memories of him.  He was there at my graduation, at my school play, at my wedding.  I shall remember him as a man who took pride in his work whether it was remodeling our house or helping with the "meat processing crew" (he was the only person I knew that could package an entire deer without getting a hair on any of the meat).  And then there was the "No, frosting please" on the cake or the corner whole wheat bun...

Junie, thanks again for taking me to see him the last time I was in Billings (and for being there for him).

Love,

Your cuz Tracy

Bob will be missed by so many of us who treasured his smile and support of the musicians in the Billings area. We will miss you and pray your family finds comfort in the love you shared with so many. Our prayers are with you all.
