Anna "Anne" Leona Holland

Anna “Anne” Leona Holland, 94 of Billings, died peacefully Monday, January 25,
2010 at Valley Health Care Center, where she had resided since
December 2007.
She was born on June 13, 1915 in
Ashley,
ND, the daughter of Lydia Wieler
Harter and John J. Harter. She attended school in
North Dakota
and later received training as a beautician.
Anne married Omar Holland on October 4, 1947 in the Zion Lutheran
Church parsonage in
Ashley. Omar’s employment as district manager of Coast to
Coast Stores brought them to Billings in 1955. In 1960, they
were transferred to Chillicothe, MO, where they resided until returning to Billings in 1965.
Prior to his death in June of 1973, Omar suffered a severe stroke
resulting in a coma. Throughout his long illness, Anne made a
weekly trip to the Veterans Administration
Hospital in Miles City
to spend time with him.
A woman of great Christian faith, she was an active member of
Peace
Lutheran
Church
in Billings
until her health declined. For years she spent Saturdays as a
Gray Lady at St. Vincent Healthcare, a volunteer activity that gave
her a great deal of satisfaction. Among her hobbies and
interests were her collection of angels, her church sewing and
quilting groups, card playing, and a love of pets, especially her
long time companion, her dog Beaver. She enjoyed spending time
working in her garden and raising flowers. Anne loved to
entertain her friends. Proud of her German heritage, she often
shared her wonderful German dished with friends and neighbors.
Although Anne and Omar did not have children of their own, she was
fond of her nieces and nephew and their families. Her home was
filled with photographs of them.
In 2003 she sold her
Parkhill Drive
home and moved to West
Park Village
where she resided until health problems necessitated a move to
Valley Health Care. Her family thanks the caring staff at both
facilities for their kindness, concern and love shown to Anne while
she was a resident.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister,
Amanda Knoblich; and a brother, Edwin H. Harter.
Anne is survived by a nephew Gaylord (Linda) Harter of Green Valley,
AZ; and nieces, Iris Selberg of Fargo,
ND, and Allegra Kretchmer of
Ashley,
ND. Also surviving are
great-nieces Susan Harter Perkins (Shane) and family, of
Windermere, FL; Julie Harter Potts (Richard) and family of Neenah, WI; Shawneen
Cochrane and family of Mandan, ND;
and Sheila Kroener, of Nine Mile, WA. Also surviving are
great-nephews Michael (Ann) Harter and family of Edmonds, WA;
LaMonte Koerner (Rebecca) and family of Vadmais Heights, MN; Lee
Koerner and family of Corpus Christi, TX and Marshall Selberg and
family of Brookings, SD.
At Anne’s request, the casket will be closed. Graveside
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 29, at Mountview Cemetery with Rev. Robert Quam
presiding.
Memorials in Anne’s name may be made to Christikon, 1108 24th St. W., Billings,
MT 59102
or the charity of one’s choice.
