Wayne Ehlenburg

Wayne passed away on January 20th at Valley Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family.  Wayne was born February 8, 1922 to Frank and Verna Ehlenburg (Thurber) in Billings Montana. Wayne graduated from Billings Senior High in 1941. Wayne enlisted in the Navy on February 21, 1942 serving on the USS Haley in the South Pacific. He was discharged on November 11, 1945.

Upon returning to Montana he went to work for Lewis Construction bringing electricity to the rural communities such as Absarokee where he met the love of his life, Shirley Riddle at the Green Derby Cafe. Wayne and Shirley were married on June 18, 1948.   From this union were born three children, Linda, Steve and Deb. Wayne began his career with the Montana Power Company in April 1948 and retiring in 1985. After retirement Wayne and Shirley spent their winters in Arizona until 1995. The remaining years were spent shoveling snow in the winter and helping his children with all of their home improvement projects rather than his own that he saved for retirement

He took great pride and enjoyed the time he spent with his grandkids and great grandkids.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Vrna Ehlenburg and his brother Charles Ehlenburg.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley; his sister, Mildred Sweeney of Aurora, Colorado; children; Linda (Steve) French, Steve Ehlenburg and Debbie (Rob) Bryson; grandchildren: Jaime (Pete) Sanderson, Jennie "Bug" Taylor, Erica (Justin) Watson, Chalis Ehlenburg, Clinton Ehlenburg, and Kelly Bryson; great-grandchildren, Raelee, Carter, Danielle, Addison and a baby boy on the way; special sister-in-law Eileen Ekwortzel; brother-in-law Charles Riddle; and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rocky Mountain Hospice, Alzheimer's Association, Grace United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place.  Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 25, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church.  Inurnment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  A reception will be held at the church following burial.
