Lorina Oster Renstrom


Lorina Renstrom our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away in the afternoon of Monday December 6th 2010 from natural causes. She was 86 years old.
Lorina was born in Eureka, South Dakota May 19th 1924 to Matheis and Magdalena Oster and she was the second oldest in the family.
Lorina moved to Billings at an early age with the family. Her first school days were spent in a country school outside of Eureka, South Dakota. She attended Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Billings Senior High. While attending high school she met her future husband (Melvin E. Renstrom) Lorina moved to Cheyenne Wyoming and worked for Western Union through the war years. She was an excellent typist winning awards for speed and accuracy. She returned to Billings in 1946 and married Mel in February of 1947. The first of their two sons was born in late November of 1947 and Lorina became a homemaker.

She was a very caring person and would give a great deal of her time taking care of her parents when her father fell ill. An outstanding cook and a great card player she enjoyed many hours playing games and serving great homemade Swiss Steak Dinners. She fell in love with bowling and met many people and made many friends during her over 40 years on the lanes. She and her husband also bowled on mixed leagues and in later years bowled on the senior leagues. Tournaments were enjoyed by the pair and good times were had by the entire team no matter where they went.

Halloween was her favorite holiday and she made many a fine treat bags for the kids that visited her house. She was known by kids throughout the town as having the very best treats.

Church organizations meant a great deal to her and she participated in many of them at Trinity Lutheran Church.

She loved to keep a lovely flower garden and spent many hours working in them. Lorina had the most beautiful Peonies in the block and their smell was wonderful.

Lorina was preceded in death by her husband last year having celebrated 62 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her Brother Dr. Clint V. Oster of Columbus Ohio. She is survived by her sister, Francella Jacobosen of Kalispell, Montana and brother, Frank (LaDonna) Oster of Billings, Montana, two sons, Melvin (Susan) Renstrom and Lance Renstrom of Billings Montana, granddaughter, Linda Guthridge of Laurel, Montana, four great grandchildren Ashley, Emily, Tyler and Jacob, her nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

The family would like to extend special gratitude to the nurses and C.N.A.' s at Valley Health Care Center in Billings, Montana.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday December 11th, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church at the comer of 6th Street West and Grand Avenue in Billings, Montana. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Friday December l0th from 2:00P.M to 8:00 P.M. at Michelotti Sawyers in Billings, Montana.

Memorials may be donated to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School in her name.
