Marian Rosalie Nelson

Marian Nelson passed peacefully on December 21, 2010 at Billings Health and Rehab where she had been in failing health for the past 5 months. She was born on February 12, 1916 in St. Lawrence, South Dakota, to parents Lena and Leland Harris.

Marian graduated from Savage High School and worked at the Savage Hotel and Boarding House before her marriage to Charles Nelson on June 3, 1939. She recalled that day as the happiest in her life. They shared 60 years before Charles death in 1999.

During their married life, raising sugar beets placed Marian and Charles in Savage, Kinsey and back to the Midway Community at Savage. Marian's vegetable and flower gardens were a labor of love and she shared the bounty with many after canning and freezing a winter supply for her family. Marian's family and friends will always have fond memories of her when seeing red geraniums or crocheted afghans. The Nelson home was the gathering place for the family on holidays and Sundays, where Marian's unmatched fried chicken and baked goodies were plentiful.

Marian is survived by daughter Marilyn Wheeler, Billings; son Larry Nelson, Billings; son Keith (Donna) Nelson, Savage; sister Dorothy McMillan, Hamilton; seven grand children and ten great grand children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles; brothers Don, Owen and Edward Harris; sister Mildred Rattell; son in law Ken Wheeler; grandson Scott Wheeler; and life time best friend Alice Hagler Barassa.

The family thanks the staff of Sunrise Manor in Savage where mom resided for 4 years, the staff at Billings Health and Rehab, Dr. Neil Sorenson, and Rocky Mountain Hospice. Professional and compassionate care was a blessing in Mom's last years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunrise Manor in Savage, Montana or Rocky Mountain Hospice of Billings. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 30th, at 10:30 AM at the United Church of Christ in Savage, Montana.
