Olive Croy Bauman

Olive "Tod" Croy Bauman passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 2, 2010 in Mesa, AZ where she resided.

"Tod" was born on May 19, 1912 and lived a full life to the age of 98. She was born in Gladstone, ND to Arthur and Icyle Rich Croy. When she was a young girl, her father worked as a telegrapher for the Northern Pacific/Burlington railroad and so she got to travel throughout the country experiencing the rich history of many places, which she found very fascinating. The Croy family eventually settled in Huntley, MT. "Tod" graduated from Huntley Project High School and went on to receive her teaching degree from Eastern Montana Normal School. She then began a lifetime teaching career. Her first job was teaching in Huntley, where she actually taught her younger sister, Constance.

While teaching and residing in Huntley, she met and married J.P. Cummings. "Tod" and her husband later transferred to Billings where she started teaching at Rimrock School. They then moved to Butte. At the outset of World War II, her husband was called into the Army and they moved to Seattle. She signed on to work at a factory in Hanford, WA where she made parts for the Atom Bomb. When her husband returned with the Army, from the Aleutians, they moved to California where she taught in the Long Beach school system.

After her husband was discharged from the Army, they moved to Denver where she immediately started teaching in the Denver School system. While in Denver, she started back to school and received her Master's Degree in Education. While teaching and living in Denver, her marriage to JP Cummings dissolved.

Later while in Denver, "Tod" met and married Fritz Bauman. After retiring from the Denver School system, "Tod" and Fritz moved to Mesa, AZ where she resided until her passing.

She enjoyed playing golf, swimming and watching her favorite baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks and football team, the Arizona Cardinals. "Tod" and Fritz became "snowbirds" traveling back to her home state in the summer and vacationing in Red Lodge, whenever possible.

"Tod" was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands; sisters, Elva Bryan and Orpha "Skeet" Richards, her brother Arthur Croy; brothers-in-law Jack Bryan, Don Y. Richards, and Wilfrid King. She is survived by her sister, Constance R. King; sister-in-law, Sylvia Croy; brother-in-law, Donald Bauman as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for a later date. Cremation has taken place.
