Eleanor F. Ostwalt
Our beloved mother, Eleanor F. Ostwalt, passes away Sunday,
August 22, 2010 at her home in Billings.
She was born February 3, 1921 in Loveland, CO., the only child
of John and Lydia Steffan. During her teenage years her family
moved to Montana. This is where she met her husband Henry
Ostwalt, Jr. They had been married 61 years at the time of
Henry’s death in May 2004. After Henry retired they were able to
purchase some land near Boyd and go back to their lifelong dream
of raising cattle and putting up hay. They enjoyed fishing trips
and family vacations. Our fondest memories are centered around
Christmas’ spent at their house enjoying her homemade Kuchen and
other German desserts.
Mom was an accomplished seamstress making many of her children’s
clothes. She also enjoyed her embroidery, crocheting, and bead
work and won many blue ribbons at the fair. Mom truly enjoyed
working with the cattle. She took great pride in the fact that
all her “girls” as she referred to them were all named and that
she could walk up to them in the pasture at anytime.
She is survived by her four children, Sharon (Ron) Rutschke,
Reneé (Floyd) McFarren, Jeff (Deb) Ostwalt, and Traci Ostwalt,
four grandchildren Shaunna, Krisla, Mandi (Chas), and Alyssa and
seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Henry, mother Lydia, father
John, half-sister Edith, half-brother Slim, and son-in-law
Floyd.
We will all miss her greatly.
Visitation will be 2-8pm Wednesday at Michelotti-Sawyers
Mortuary. Funeral services will be 10:30am Thursday at East
Gate Wesleyan Church with interment to follow at Yellowstone
Valley Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
