Julia Moore Doyle


Julia DoyleJulia Moore Doyle, age 93 died September 15, 2009, in Billings.  Julia was born August 1, 1916 in Kautz, Russia, to Jacob and Eva Schreiner.  Julia’s father was killed by  Russian soldiers in 1917, and the family escaped the country arriving at Ellis Island in 1923.  They traveled by train for seven days across the United States where an arranged marriage to George Fox, Sr. extended the  new family. Julia was raised in the Laurel area.

On December 20, 1935, Julia married Lewis Nansel Moore.  During the World War II Lewis served in the Navy and they lived in San Francisco and Boston.  At the end of the war they moved to Miles City and had a son and daughter.  After Lewis’s death in 1951, Julia went to beauty school eventually establishing her own business.  Julia went on to become a retail store manager in Missoula, Palm Springs, and Denver.  In Denver she married Fred Doyle on November 7, 1970.  Fred and Julia settled in Colorado Springs and traveled extensively.  In 1993 they moved their home to Billings.

Julia was preceded in death by husbands Lewis Moore and Fred Doyle.  Lovingly survived by daughter Constance (Robert) Pluhar of  Minnesota; son, Dr. Douglas (Carol) Moore of Joliet; granddaughters Jeannine (Keith) Conway, Elisa Pluhar, Lynnea (Kerry) McCullough, Alyssa (Chris) Sullivan, Kristin Moore; five great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Mace; and brother George Fox. 

Many knew Julia for her spunk and her ability to play a great hand of Canasta.  She will be greatly missed by those who love her.  May she have peace forever.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 21, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings.  The casket will be open one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City, MT.   Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
