Sylvia Louise Chupp

Sylvia Chupp

Sylvia Louise Chupp, 84 of Billings, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Billings Clinic Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

The daughter of William and Elizabeth Harrison, Sylvia was born September 6, 1925 on the family farm near Absarokee. She was the youngest of 8 children. She attended the Draper School in Red Lodge and Roberts High School. Sylvia married William “Bill” Chupp November 17, 1943 in Boston where she worked with the USO and as a waitress. She moved to Bremerton, WA, where Bill boarded the USS Nevada. She worked in Bremerton until the end of WWII when they returned to Montana and made their home in Billings.

Family, including extended family, was very important to Sylvia. She was a stay-at-home mother until 1974 when she began working for Kmart at the customer service desk. She retired in 1987. Sylvia had a wonderful sense of humor and liked music, reading and watching old movies. She was able to sew and knit for her family, loved to dance, enjoyed camping and was a good cook.  Sylvia enjoyed being a part of “Buzzin Cousins”.

She is preceded in death by her husband in 1971, her son Richard in 2008, her parents, 4 brothers, Ernie, George, Willie, and Archie and 3 sisters, Minnie, Nora and Goldie.

Survivors include her daughters Vicki (Ted) Rowland of Red Lodge and Beverly Kinn of Billings, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grand children and 2 great great grandchildren. We love you and miss you.

Visitation will begin 2pm Monday. Funeral services will be 1pm Wednesday at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.

Add Your Remembrance

I was married to Jerry Love for 15 years. I met Sylvia at Nora Love's house, she was very nice to me and was a fun person. I know she loved her family a great deal. I remember her visits to Grandma Love's well. You all have my deepest sympathy, Julie and I still really miss Grandma so I know how you feel. I hope your memories sustain you in this time of loss. Best wishes,

Kathy Treanor and Julie Love Dunham

I am Sylvia's cousin from Plentywood Mt. She was my dad's (Walter Redden) mothers side of the family (Harrision). I remember Dad & I staying at her home one time when we were delegates to the Farmers Union Convention in Billings. They treated us like family. I always tried to stop at KMART to say HI whenever we were in Billings. Did miss seeing her when she retired and we kind of lost touch. I am now keeper of some of the Redden / Harrision family memories and would very much like to hear from one of the girls. You can reach me during the day at the number and address listed below or at 306 N Maurice, Plentywood MT 59254

Sincerely,

Norma Bruner (Redden)
