Harry H. Briggs


Harry H. Briggs of Billings, passed
away October 6, 2009, at the age of 95. He was born on May 23rd,
1914 in Lewistown, MT to Harry O. and Alice Corniel Briggs, the
oldest of their four children. The family moved to Great Falls in
1925. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1933, lettering
in football, basketball, and track. He was senior class treasurer.
One of his proudest moments was shaking hands with Charlie Russell
at his studio in 1926.
After graduation, he moved to Lewistown where he worked for his
Uncle Fred Briggs' plumbing business, Lewistown Transfer, MP truck
line, and Montana Flour Mills, where he was loading foreman. He also
worked in Heath, MT for U.S. Gypsum and in Spokane, WA for the Naval
Supply Depot.
In 1949, he began working as a pipe fitter for Conoco refinery in
Billings, retiring in 1979. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He
continued to play or watch sports his whole life. After retirement,
he loved playing golf, going out for breakfasts with his buddies,
retirement dinners, and going to the YMCA. He belonged to the Elks,
enjoying dancing with his sweetheart, the late Vicky Higgins. He
loved working in his yard, growing beautiful flowers and tomatoes.
He was a member of Little Flower Parish since 1963.
He is survived by three daughters, Dianne Sauther (Arnold) and
Beverly Hull (Grove) of Billings, and Bonnie Mountain (Jim) of South
Orange, NJ; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him were his two sisters, June Halgren and Joleen Blotkamp;
and brother Joe Briggs.
Dad, you worked hard to maintain that independence. You did well. We
all love you and will miss you.
Thank you to the caring staff at Butterfly Homes for the past two
and a half years and to the care of Rocky Mountain Hospice.
Memorials may be made to Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch,
Alzheimer's Association, or Rocky Mountain Hospice.
