Clifford Barton Peterson

Clifford Peterson

Clifford Barton Peterson died November 2 at St. Vincent Health Care of complications after surgery. Clifford was born March 22, 1923 in Sidney, MT, to Mabel Nelson Peterson and Christian Barton Peterson. He attended country schools then Sidney High School before graduating from Billings Business College. Clifford married Nadine Speelmon in 1947. They later divorced and he married Donna M. Adams in 1974.

In Billings Cliff worked for Franklin Serum Company, Heald Supply Co., and Wyo-Ben. After retiring Cliff and Donna took to the road in their RV, traveling south in the winter and north in the summer for eleven years. They made friends across the country before settling first in Casa Grande, AZ, then Roswell, NM, returning to Billings in 2008. Cliff was an avid fly fisherman, bird hunter and lifelong birdwatcher. He enjoyed reading and was especially fond of Montana and Western History.

Clifford is survived by his wife, Donna, of the family home; son Dr. Kim (Claudia) Peterson of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Marla (Chris) Morgan of Artesia, NM; stepsons Don (Beverly) Huffman and Ross (Pam) Adams of Billings; brother Myles (Phyllis) Peterson of Moses Lake, WA; fourteen grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Perry Peterson of Sidney and Harvey Peterson of Billings.

Services will be held one o’clock PM Friday at Michelotti-Sawyer Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Cliff’s love of reading to any public library or literacy program.

Add Your Remembrance

Dear Donna and family,

I had so hoped to visit you since we both moved back to the state.  I'm very sad that I've lost the chance to see Cliff one more time.  I've got very fond memories of him and he reminded me of grandpa.  I'm sorry that I will be unable to attend his service but know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.  Please keep in touch and I look forward to stopping to visit you sometime when I'm in Billings.  God Bless.
