Peg Krivec

Peg Krivec died on Monday, May 4, 2009, of natural causes, at her home in Billings, surrounded by her family. She was 86 years old.

Peg was christened Leila Margaret McMahon but always known as “Peg.” She was born Aug. 16, 1922, the daughter of Thomas J. and Hannah McMahon in Coonamble, New South Wales, Australia. She was raised and educated in Australia, immigrating to the United States shortly after World War II.

Stanley P. Krivec of Klein married Peg in Spokane, Wash., on Aug. 23, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1980. Peg and Stan raised their family in Billings. Peg was active in civic issues and an active member of the community and Catholic organizations. Peg was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church; past president and more than 50-year member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Cecelia 1151; a 15-year member and past president of the “Pink Ladies” volunteer organization of St. Vincent’s Hospital. She also served on the Montana Human Rights Commission.

Following Stan’s death, Peg moved to Helena in January 1981 and served as the Commissioner of Political Practices, appointed by then Governor Tom Judge. She served a six year term. She retired and returned to Billings in 1987. She traveled extensively through Ireland, England and Australia. Peg was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children and husband, Stan. She is survived by sons, Patrick, Tom (Judy), Mick (Diane) and Jim (Janet), all of Billings, and Margaret (Stan) Daugherty of Gallup, N.M.; grandchildren, Pat, Kevin, Devon, Brandon, Katie, Daniel, Lauren and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren, Myranda and Abby; extended family, Carol Ann Coltrin of Ventura, Calif. She is also survived by her sister Mrs. Edward (Mary) Hunt and niece Pam Hunt Duddy of Coonamble, NSW, Australia and a large extended family, all living in Australia.

A Rosary will be held at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Pius X Church, 18th Street West and Broadwater Avenue, Friday, May 8, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2216 Grand Ave.

Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice or have a mass said in Peg’s name.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the caregivers who gave so lovingly to their mom: Chris, Diana, Brandi and Naomi.
