Kathleen Sullivan Hagen

Kathleen Sullivan Hagen

Kathleen Patricia Sullivan Hagen, 85, of Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2009 in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.  The daughter of James J and Anna Sullivan, she was born January 10, 1924 in Billings, Montana.

She grew up in Hardin, St. Xavier, and Billings MT.  After graduation from Billings High School in 1941, Kathleen went to work at the Billings Clinic.  She held a variety of clerical positions before becoming the Assistant Personnel Manager.  She retired from the Clinic in 1977 after 36 years of service.

Since Kathleen didn’t marry as a young woman, she assumed the responsibility of taking care of her Mother after her Father passed away in 1958.  Kathleen was a devoted, loving caregiver when her mother’s health started to decline in her later years before she passed away in 1977.

In 1978 Kathleen moved to warm and sunny Sarasota, Florida and worked as an Executive Secretary for the Charles Steadman (Insurance) Group.

Kathleen married Dr. Walter Hagen of Billings, MT on May 23, 1980 in Sarasota.  The Hagen’s especially enjoyed traveling both in the US and to Ireland, Germany, Africa, China and more.  Unfortunately their life together was cut short when Walter passed away in 1985.

As a widow, Kathleen devoted much of her time to her friends becoming the unofficial caregiver for several of her friends.  She also enjoyed spending several months in Billings every summer which gave her a chance to be close to her family and maintain her relationships with former neighbors, co-workers, and classmates.

Kathleen was a member of Incarnation Catholic Church in Sarasota.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother James and her sister Margaret Kelly.  She is survived by two nieces, Mary Wallgren (Terry) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Colleen Foreman (Ken) of Billings, her sister-in-law Marguerite Sullivan of Billings, two nephews, Patrick Sullivan (Patricia) of Carmel, CA and Phil Sullivan (Barbara) of Fort Bragg, CA, and six great nephews and one great niece.  She is also survived by her two step daughters, Nancy Teachout (Don) of Essex Junction, VT and Mollie Hagen (John Kremeier) of Denver, CO, four grand children, and four great grand children.

Kathleen was a loving, devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, stepmother, and grandmother.  She made many friends in her life and will be missed by all who knew her.  Her gorgeous, radiant smile brightened everyone’s day.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 25th at 10:00 St. Pius X Church in Billings, Montana.  Arrangements by Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings.

Memorials may be made to any Alzheimer research foundation.
