Marilou C. Lawellin


Marilou C. LawellinWith her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her side, Marilou Lawellin passed away at the Billings Clinic on August 22, 2009. Marilou was born the daughter of Charles and Eva (Moore) Rigler on August 23, 1926. She grew up on the family ranch at Slip n' Slide Creek north of Gardiner and attended grade school at Cedar Creek. Marilou graduated from Park County High School in 1944 and taught school at the Big Creek School and also in Gardiner. On May 10, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Lawellin, in Tyler, Texas where Bob was serving in the Army. When Bob was sent to occupy Germany after the war, Marilou returned to the family ranch. When Bob returned home they settled in Livingston. Bob worked for Montana Power Company and during his career they also lived in Yellowstone Park, Manhattan, Missoula, Great Falls and Belgrade. They returned to Livingston in 1996 and resided there until 2006 when they moved to Billings. Marilou worked at Mountain Bell for 26 years and retired in 1981.

Marilou is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bob Lawellin, her son Curt Lawellin of Manhattan, her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dick Fellows of Red Lodge, her sister Betty Loughridge of Bend, Oregon her brother and his wife Bill and Sue Rigler of Ruidoso, New Mexico and her sister and her husband Bobbi and Ryan Swan of Kalispell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brett and Monica Fellows of Billings, Chris and Sue Fellows of Belgrade, Charlie and Angel Lawellin of Helena, Amy and Greg Ebanks of Phoenix and April Lawellin of Bozeman. The light of her life were her great- grandchildren, Sally and Libby Fellows, Caden and Ashley Fellows, Adam and Justin Lawellin and Houston, Isiah, Ciara, Perry and Dada Ebanks. Marilou was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Peggy Rigler.

Marilou will always be remembered for her love of life and her contagious laugh. Her family is very blessed with all the memories from family adventures. In addition to time with family, Marilou also spend many hours on her favorite hobby of crewel embroidery much of which she gave away to family and friends.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27 at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, MT. Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Yellowstone County - 505 Orchard Lane, Billings, Montana 59101

Uncle Bob, Curt, Linda and families,

Aunt Marilou was always such a fun loving spirit and had a beautiful contagious laugh.

She will be missed by all of us. My love and prayers go out to Curt, Linda and their families.

Marilou is in the arms of the lord and a much better place, but we will miss her so much.

Linda, Dick and family: I wanted you to know that I am keeping you in my prayers during this difficult time ~~~ May God comfort you today and always. I am sorry to say that I cannot make it to Livingston for your Mom's funeral but please know that we are thinking of you this week. We all are lucky to have so many good family memories from Manhattan, our lives were formed there. Please take care of yourselves.

Dear Bob,

I had the privilege and honor to work with Marilou for many years at the Telephone Company. Her laugh was indeed infectious and she was so very kind and considerate of those around her. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My memories of Marilou will keep my smiling forever.
