Elma Adina Bascom
Elma Adina Bascom passed away peacefully at
Aspen Meadows, her home for the past 5 years, at age 92. She
was the youngest of 5 children born to Mike and Elizabeth (Mantere)
Hill on the homestead farm near Roberts, MT. She attended the
Roberts School and graduated in 1934.
During WWII she was married to Matt Hertin, who served in the Army.
They were later divorced and she lived in Red Lodge until 1954 when
she married Carl Bascom and moved to Billings.
In Billings, she became very active in many clubs and endeavors.
She was a long time receptionist at Acme Beauty College. One
of her greatest abilities was rasing flowers. She became a
Master Flower Judge, judging many flower shows in the area.
Her real passion became hand quilting. Her work was beautiful
and flawless. Having no children of her own she enjoyed her
grandnieces and nephews, sewing each a precious quilt. She was
in demand for custom quilting, also, until macular degeneration
stole her sight.
Elma is survived by two nieces, Renee Hill Kercher of Billings and
Verna Warila Smith of Oklahoma City.
Cremation has taken place. A Graveside Memorial Service will
be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Roberts
Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Yellowstone Council on Aging, the
Billings Community Center, or charity of ones choice.
